Joint Graduate Scholarship Program for Japanese Nationals with the World Bank.
Application period JJWBGSP Scholarship Program 2023 for Japanese Nationals will February 6–April 20, 2023.
Award: A scholarship for Japanese professionals in their mid-career who are pursuing a career in international development and who have been accepted to, or are presently enrolled in, a master's or PhD programme in a field of study related to development outside of Japan. This scholarship covers tuition, a monthly living allowance, air travel, and health insurance for a maximum of two years.
Core Qualification Requirements for JJWBGSP Scholarship Program:
• Have Japanese citizenship;
• Possess a Bachelor's degree (or an equivalent degree) that was earned at least three years before the application deadline;
• Have at least three years of recent, full-time, paid employment acquired since receiving the initial Bachelor's (or equivalent) degree before the application deadline;
• At the time of application, the applicant must not be an Executive Director or an alternate, staff member, consultant for the World Bank Group, or a close relative or in-law of any of the aforementioned;
• At the time of application, not be employed by the Government of Japan or any of its affiliated organisations;
• Not have received any government of Japan scholarships for graduate studies;
• Be enrolled in a master's or PhD programme with a development-related focus at a university outside of Japan, or for the following academic year, have received unconditional acceptance (aside from the requirement of funding) by February 6, 2023.
Application Procedure: The World Bank Scholarships Program website contains the application guidelines, a comprehensive list of eligibility requirements, an online application form, and a list of necessary documents.
By April 20, 2023, at noon, Washington, DC time, the completed application must be submitted online.
In June 2023, up to 15 awards will be revealed for the following academic year.
JJWBGSP Scholarship for Japanese Nationals Benefits
The Government of Japan fully funds the scholarship, which offers each recipient the following advantages throughout the scholarship period:
The scholarship will cover one round-trip economy flight from the scholar's home country to the host university at the start of the graduate degree programme, as well as a USD 500 travel expense, if they are not already enrolled in the graduate programme.
The scholarship will pay for one economy-class flight from the host university to Japan or a developing nation where the scholar has secured employment, as well as a USD500 travel allowance, if at the end of the scholarship period the scholar has fulfilled all requirements to earn the graduate degree.
tuition for his or her graduate programme for the duration of the scholarship, as well as the value of basic health insurance that can be obtained through the university.
During the scholarship period, a monthly subsistence allowance to cover all living costs is provided while on campus (accommodations, food, etc., including books). Depending on the host nation, the allowance varies in size.
Please be aware that all JJ/WBGSP scholarships only cover the first two years of the graduate programme.
